The charm of a 19th century noble palace
Contemporary design in an aristocratic mansion in Linguaglossa, Etna
Shalai is elegance and sicilian nobility: frescoed rooms, vaulted roofs, fine majolica
The story of Shalai, a charming and design boutique hotel on Etna, seems like a modern day fairy tale. A family story that connects Tuscany with Sicily as its protagonist. The story begins with a glass of good wine, a dinner and the bet made to transform an ancient mansion with a nineteenth-century flavour into a charming hotel.
The building dates back, in its current structure, to the early 1800s, when the owners of the time decided to aggregate, in a single body, several residential units with the annexed service spaces. At the beginning town hall, later a 19th-century Sicilian noble palace, today Shalai is still a home where Luciano Pennisi celebrate hospitality as a pure experience. Design rooms and romantic suites with frescoed ceilings welcome guests in environments of precious charm. The restoration project of the historic residence was followed with sagacity and professionalism by the architects Lucia Papa and Paola Mariotto who gave life to a boutique hotel with a contemporary flavour.
